Burbank Public Library Book Sale

Although I've not taken The Compact, I have seriously frugalized my life of late. The first of these life changes were an embargo on purchasing new books. I'm an avid reader, so this is quite possibly the hardest thing I've ever done. Here's a way to indulge my fantasy without harm to the environment, and while supporting a nonprofit--the Burbank Public Library's yearly Book Sale will be held from April 27th-May 2nd. Click on the image above to enlarge the flyer for details. But save all the good ones for me!

What's your best source of used books? Let me know in a comment below.

  1. Hey Ellen-
You're going crazy with the posts lately- I can't keep up!
Reading is one of my great joys, and even though I rarely buy hardbacks, when I realized I was spending over $1000 a year on books a couple of years ago, I took some drastic measures. Mainly the library, and buying used on amazon or abebooks. That has pretty much satisfied 95 percent of my book needs. I have gone to a couple of library sales, and also receive books as gifts. But it hasn't been a problem. Also I am planning on a book swap in the next couple of months so I'll let you know about it.

  2. And I also wanted to mention if you get a library card from any branch, you can go to lapl.org and place a hold on a book and they'll have it sent to your local branch. It's very convenient for us because our library is an easy 10 block walk.
Also, the free library card will get you free admission into places like our recreation center swimming pool in the summer. An added bonus.
