Hollywood Bowl: Best Deal in Town

The Hollywood Bowl Box Office opens Saturday, May 2, 2009.

The Bowl really is the best deal in town. When I first started going a couple years ago, the cheap seats for most concerts were only one to four dollars! For one day's pay, I got tickets to about twenty concerts from July to October, and was able to take a guest to most of them. I've been exposed to performers I otherwise would not have ventured out for, from Tom Jones to the Sound of Music Singalong. And, as a freelancer it was affordable entertainment without fear of planning. I bought lots of tickets--if I ended up working, they were not too terribly expensive to feel bad about skipping, or giving them away. And if I was off work and therefore likely broke, I'd had something to look forward to.

Come early, pack your own food to enjoy at one of seven picnic spots, or shop at the little gourmet market at the Bowl. The grounds are really beautiful....I can't say enough about the views and the foliage there. It's something you don't expect, and it's almost better than the experience of the concert itself.

Most lots around the Bowl are stack-parked, but they offer very convenient shuttle bus service at $3/person from several lots around the city. I park at the LA Zoo and shuttle from there. The bus ride is short, runs every 20 minutes, and leaves conveniently right after the concert.

While you're there, be sure to stop by the Hollywood Bowl museum, located on the property, to learn a little L.A. history.

  1. I love both the Hollywood Bowl and the Greek Theater in the summer. They are some of the most fun to be had in L.A., and what I love about the Hollywood Bowl is bringing a picnic and wine. I have some great memories of it, especially Willie Nelson playing standards with a full orchestra on a full moon night.

If you live in L.A. - it really is a Can't Miss.
