Rock Body Deoderant

I've read on my Compact Webgroup about a deoderant that comes in basically salt form. I finally saw this in person at the body products store Basin. Here's their description of it:

Rock Body Deodorant is made of 100% natural minerals salts which make the compound Alum. The salts form a topical layer on the skin making it hard for odor causing bacteria to thrive.

Because it is natural there are no chemicals, perfumes, dyes, alcohol (which shrinks pores) or aluminum chlorohydrate/aluminum zirconium. These compounds enter the pores and physically block or clog them.Men and women alike can use this. It is excellent for those who have allergies, sensitive skin or want a healthy alternative to chemical laden deodorants.
Directions: Moisten the rock and apply to the skin directly after you have bathed or showered.

They sell it for $5.99 per 110 grams.

I'm attracted to this product for the natural ingredients. I've always had sensitive skin and am particularly sensitive to scents. I also suspect that just one of these lasts for a million years, so it's probably a good investment.

I'm really curious as to how well this works, but don't want to spend the money right now on an experiment. So I thought I'd open it up to my group: Has anyone else tried this or a similar product? Leave me a comment in a note below.

Ellen love your blog! Beautiful picture! Next time you want to go to Downtown Disney, stop by Long Beach and pick me up! I love to look in the Dept56 store because I used to collect the Dickens Village. I have tried a rock crystal deoderant before, and it didn't work that well for me. I might be to the point of trying it again, though. How is the Dr. Bonner's doing for your hair?

I started last August. Always had a problem with underarm BO and couldn't
imagine a rock managing the problem.

At the same time I was readying myself to take the plunge, there were posts on
proper hygiene, including how long to wash your hand after handling birds in
order to destroy any bacteria/virus. That got me thinking that maybe I wasn't
washing long enough in the first place to remove the bacteria that was causing
    the BO.

So now I sing Happy Birthday while washing (just because it easiest to remember
although celebrating the fact that I'm still on the right side of the grass each
day isn't a bad thing!) and then use the rock.

Yes, I sometimes drip down to my waist as Linda puts it. That takes some getting
    used to.

But I don't smell, therefore am washing my clothes less often (very Compacty).

My 'new-to-me' clothes don't have stains under the arms like my pre-rock clothes
    do (again very Compacty.)

My 'new-to-me' clothes don't stink of BO, there are some things I could never
get the smell out of - they are fine when washed but as my body heats up the
garment the smell comes back. (therfore very Compacty since I can keep clothes
    longer.)

And my rock will last at least a year which is sure to avoid some landfill and a
trip to the store (more Compacty results.)

    Price - slightly more expensive.

Easier to air travel with (solid therefore no issue with the carry-on liquid
rules) but it must be in my carry-on because it got cracked in the checked bags
(probably freezing in the airplane hold caused the moisture in it to expand.)

I also use it on my feet to control foot odor with great results.

So, all in all, this is a Compact-inspired change that has improved my life.

Kathryn that is so funny! I came to the same conclusion! Especially since I had one underarm that would get BO, and the other would not. So I started paying attention to what I was doing in the shower, and it turned out that the stinky pit always got washed after the other. So now I make sure and relather the wash clothe, and sing Happy Birthday to each arm! LOL! Where did you get your crystal deoderant?

I am reading latest to earliest in order to catch up - dunno why I'm backwards right now - but wondered if the soap used could be making a
difference. Glad you figured out a plan!

I've used a crystal for years and have been amazed at how well it works, though I've heard folks laugh about the idea of using a crystal for a deodorant, for all the world as if it's a crazy new age idea which people just imagine works. LOL!!! I also use a soap - Basis, I think it is - on the advice of a dermatologist since other soaps made me break out.

Not in my case. I use whatever soap is in the hotel and usually the bar by the sink (not the bath bar.)

We start by using the leftover soap in our travel kit, then open the soap at the first hotel and then carry it with us until it runs out, usually 2 - 3 weeks, and move on to the next soap. Whatever soap is leftover, is then left in our travel kit for the next trip.

I finally found it at a health food store in Ottawa (after searching for it in Montreal while on a trip.) Nothing like finding something just 2 blocks from our son's work.

At least the people here steered me in the right direction.

The rock crystal was a great deodorant, but I still was dripping with sweat to my waist.

I use the rock crystal deodorant. Yes, you still sweat, but I love it!! I NEVER stink with it and it is so much safer and healthier than the other stuff. My husband, however, hates it.

I used the deodorant rock as directed, wetting it and rubbing it on my underarms. It took quite a while for my underarms to dry each morning.WAY too long. Finally, I quit drying my underarms and rubbed the dry rock on wet underarms. That is much more effective and left less wetness right when I wanted to put on my clothes.

The rock is not a great summertime solution as it is a deodorant not an antiperspirant. But, it works well in the winter. One rock will likely last a person a lifetime. Mine is about the size of a lemon, not large at all, but longlasting.
